Approximate Running Times: Doors - 6:30pm Duration - 2 hours 45 minutes, including interval IIn June and July, we return to the Palais with André Previn's A Streetcar Named Desire. Since its premiere in 1998, it has become one of the most widely performed American operas of the modern era. Based on Tennessee Williams' iconic play, the work is richly attuned to the emotional intensity of the drama, with a score that seems to shimmer with heat and tension, infused with subtle jazz influences. Directed by Sarah Goodes and conducted by Jessica Gethin, this production will draw on the strength of Melbourne's singing actors to bring its complex characters vividly to life. .
